This section provides brief highlights for the human space flight missions of the pioneering first two decades (1961-1980), in chronological order. The list includes the sub-orbital Mercury-Redstone flights of Shepard and Grissom in 1961, the tragic launch pad disaster of Apollo 1 in 1967 and the aborted mission-in-progress of Soyuz 18-1 in 1975.
