Al Worden completed one spaceflight, serving as the Command Module Pilot on the 1971 mission of Apollo 15, the fourth manned lunar landing mission. While his colleagues, Commander Dave Scott and Lunar Module Pilot Jim Irwin landed on the surface and explored the Hadley Rille and Apennine Mountains in the south-eastern edge of the Mare Imbrium (Sea of Rains), Worden spent three days circling the moon alone conducting scientific observations and photography.
