6th Air Force Selection (1976)
With over 651 days in space and almost 80 hours of EVA experience on 16 space walks during 5 spaceflights over a period of 10 years, Anatoli Solovyov is one of the world’s most experience space explorers. All of his missions were to the Mir space station between 1988 and 1998 (almost the entire life of the station) and included four flights on the Soyuz TM spacecraft and one launch on an American Shuttle (Atlantis) and a landing on a fifth Soyuz TM. In addition to his five missions, he was also assigned to four back up crews and to the ISS programme for a short while. His career reflected the growing international aspect of the Russian space programme, with him working in a price or back up role on crews that included citizens from Syria, Bulgaria and France, and well as several American astronauts.
