Polyakov, Valeri
Valery Polyakov holds the record for the longest single spaceflight at 438 days aboard the space station Mir, between January 1994 and March 1995.  The mission was planned to last even longer - around 540 days - but the Russian Space Agency was unable to pay for the launch vehicle needed to return him, so he returned with an earlier crew.
