Air Force test pilot Pam Melroy flew on three shuttle missions to the International Space Station during a 14 year career with NASA. She flew twice as a pilot and then became only the second Shuttle female commander (after Eileen Collins) for her third mission. It was during this third mission that she helped to create space history in the first meeting of two female spacecraft commanders in the greeting with ISS commander Peggy Whitson. During her three missions she assisted in the delivery of key elements in the assembly of the ISS, including the Z1 Truss, Pressurised Mating Adapter 3, S-1 integrated truss segment and the Node 2 ‘Harmony’ elements.
