USN naval aviator Commander Kenneth Ham served as pilot for STS-124 the 26th Shuttle flight to the International Space Station which delivered the Japanese Pressurised Module ‘Kibo’ to the station expanding the Japanese segment and the scientific capabilities of the orbital facility. This was the second of three flights designed to install and activate the Japanese Kibo laboratory. In addition to the installation of the laboratory module the crew of STS-124 also activated robotic arm system and install the labs logistics module delivered three months previously to its permanent position on top of the pressurised laboratory.
