With just three missions left in the program gaining experience in rendezvous and docking was a high priority for Gemini 10. This time the Agena was orbited safely to be followed just 100 minutes later by the Gemini 10 spacecraft carrying Command Pilot John Young, on his second mission and rookie Michael Collins. The plan for this mission was audacious with multiple docking maneuvers with Agena 10, and using its engine to boost the combination to a high apogee orbit. As well as two EVA periods they would use the Agena 10 engine to change Gemini 10's orbit to then rendezvous with the abandoned Agena 8 target, last used on the shortened Gemini 8 mission.
