Vladimir Dzhanibekov became the first Russian Cosmonaut to fly in space five times. Between 1978 and 1985, he commanded five space station missions and became one of the most experienced Cosmonaut in rendezvous and docking techniques. This skill enabled him to command the 1985 Soyuz T13-Salyut 7 rescue mission, which restored the ailing space station to operational condition in order to support further long duration missions.
